Patterns and Variation of Littoral Habitat Size Among Lakes

چکیده
The littoral zone varies in size among lakes from ∼3% to 100% of lake surface area. In this paper, we derive a simple theoretical scaling relationship that explains variation, and test theory using bathymetric data across the spectra freshwater (surface area = 0.01–82,103 km2, maximum depth 2–1,741 m). Littoral primarily reflects ratio photosynthesis depth. However, are similar these characteristics can have different relative areas because variation basin shape. Hypsometric (area-elevation) models describe patterns for individual be generalized accurately predict habitat when there is incomplete information. Collectively, our results provide rules understanding at regional global scales.

learning a second or foreign language requires the manipulation of four main skills, namely, listening, reading, speaking, and writing which lead to effective communication. it is obvious that vocabulary is an indispensible part of any communication, so without a vocabulary, no meaningful communication can take place and meaningful communication relies heavily on vocabulary. one fundamental fac...
Great Lakes Nearshore Habitat Science
Humans have dramatically altered the Great Lakes basin of North America through agricultural practices, urban development, industrial and commercial activities, and introductions of non-native species (Christie et al. 1987, Steedman and Regier 1987, Edsall 1996). Stressors associated with these changes have overwhelmed natural ecosystem processes throughout the basin (Regier and Hartman 1973, S...
متن کاملSmall lakes in big landscape: Multi-scale drivers of littoral ecosystem in alpine lakes.
In low nutrient alpine lakes, the littoral zone is the most productive part of the ecosystem, and it is a biodiversity hotspot. It is not entirely clear how the scale and physical heterogeneity of surrounding catchment, its ecological composition, and larger landscape gradients work together to sustain littoral communities. A total of 113 alpine lakes from the central Pyrenees were surveyed to ...

We collected aquatic gastropods at 137 sites in lakes and streams of Indiana and tested for patterns of assemblages with environmental variables. The survey resulted in 32 species with a mean of 2.8 species at each site, and a mean abundance at each site of 144 individuals. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NMS) multivariate analyses resulted in watershed drainage area, water conductivity, su...
